Exalt:
1. To raise in rank, character or status; elevate.
2. To glorify, praise or honor.
Biblical meaning of exalt:
In Jesus' kingdom, those who exalt themselves will eventually find themselves humbled, and those that humble themselves will eventually be exalted. To be first we must be last.
As church started tonight the first two worship songs were about exalting the Lord. I began to wonder what the meaning of exalt was. So many times I throw around "christian" words and have no clue what their real meaning is. So, I googled exalt and found the definitions above. I then searched biblegateway.com for verses with exalt and there were tons. They all used the word exalt when talking about the Lord. When reading the meanings I realized exalt isn't just a word to use for anyone. Even the dictionary says glorify, praise or honor. The only person I should glorify is the Lord. I began went back to the song we sang in church tonight:
"He is exalted the king is exalted on high, I will praise him. He is exalted, forever exalted and I will praise his name. He is the Lord, forever his truth shall reign, heaven and earth, rejoice in his holy name. He is exalted the king is exalted on high."
I realized that I don't always exalt the Lord. Sometimes I get lazy and I don't speak about the Lord or talk to him in a way that exalts him (elevates, glorifies, praises, honors). And many times I find me exalting myself, and not practicing humility which is another topic the Lord has been working on me in.
So, my prayer is that I find myself exalting Jesus more, and in doing that I become humble.
Thank you so much put it in perspective for me
ReplyDeleteI had the same idea last night at church as you did. Thanks for the insight.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the insight to both exalt and humbleness. I am studying, learning and growing in those areas.
ReplyDeleteI also did not know what this word meant or the impact its meaning holds. we must exalt our Lord and savior Jesus Christ in all forms of literal, physical and mental and especially emotional situations that surround the human species your right to be first is to be last we must die for Christ, in order to fulfill the purpose of God's plans for our lives. we must forget about ourselves and remember His promises to us and never forget that he loves us so much that we were indeed purchased by He whom sent his only begotten Son to be persecuted and crucified so that Jesus's blood pays for and purchases the salvation of our souls.
ReplyDeleteA pastor of mine once said that the songs we sing and hear about God are just spices that help us to know God but to truly know him is to know his word because in the beginning their was the word. A friend of mine once told me that the word "Bible" stands for Basic, Instructions, Before, Leaving, Earth; pretty cool huh. My point is that God's word(s) are the beginning and the end! Dr. Charles Stanley preached to us that God sais that we are to study and meditate on day and night, repeat DAY AND NIGHT! How can we truly know him if we do not know his story? we cannot simply believe because others believe. we must study his word memorize them and hold tight to them in our hearts, thoughts, mind, soul, and body, otherwise He will know us no longer on the day of His judgment. For it is written that He will turn away from us on that day and our names and lives will be lost forever and never written in "The Book of Life" Try and imagine eternity without him, it does not paint a pretty picture does it? Therefore I challenge all who read this to read his words and if you do not understand them search for their meaning and do not worry if there are parts that you do not understand. Humble yourselves and ask someone or even better go straight to the ultimate source, ask God and he will provide you with the tools you need to equip yourselves to gain knowledge and wisdom that will lead you to Him. A little tip-do not start from Genesis and read straight through to the last page of revelations. Do not go through the Bible, instead let the Bible go through you. You may wonder how to do this. Simply hold your Bible and say the Lord's prayer "The Our Father" and
then ask God where in his word do you need to be. Then open your Bible to a random page that your hands picked without looking. May sound crazy but you'll be amazed at what he will show you about YOU and how to handle situations and tribulations in your life. Remember people will always let you down its our nature and the reason Jesus is the way the truth and the light. God will not let you down but people will!!!! Seek his words and you'll find His face shining upon you eternally. Warning when you faithfully begin to seek God's word the enemy seeks to steel it away so if your a beginner or have been a believer all your life, just know that God's word, the seed of life is the only thing that the enemy seeks because he is a deceiver a thief and once he knows that you hold the secrets of eternal victory he then knows that he's lost the battle and holds NO power over you any longer but he will try many times before giving up so if life starts to get hard run to God fall to your knees praise him no matter the situation and thank him for all the heartache because this means that you've been broken and God dwells in the broken. Do not give in to old thoughts or habits that exactly what the enemy wants but if you rebuke him and embrace the hard times you've passed that test and made it through the "refiners' fire" God puts us through these tests referred to as the refiners' fire so that we come out pure as silver and gold, which means that all the trash and impurities and iniquities are destroyed. Give him thanks and praise for everything the good the bad and the ugly and that's where you'll find joy, peace and true love, which conquers all
Amen
